Weekly Email Update - April 7th

School Dismissal & Grab and Go Lunches

Dear Parents & Students,

As you are most likely aware, Governor Herbert and the state superintendent announced in a press conference that school will continue to be dismissed until May 1, 2020. The school district has indicated that during this time education will be delivered online and all extra-curricular activities have been cancelled.

Please watch for an email from your students' teachers. We realize that access to technology varies from home to home. Please let your teacher know if you are in need of assistance or know of other students who are in need.

School meals will be available to be picked up and will be grab-and-go. Meals will be available Monday thru Friday from 11- 12 pm at Heritage Curbside, or express meals dropped off at regular bus stops starting at 11:30 am.

We appreciate all that you do to support us and your students here at Heritage elementary

Parent Input

Parent Input Form is available to you to supply the school with information about your child’s special needs that you feel the principal may not be aware of. This form should be turned in to the school office no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, April 17, 2020. It is important to point out that particular programs and/or special services may make it necessary for certain students to be placed in a specific kindergarten session or with a specific teacher.  Also, teacher transfers and newly hired teachers are beyond our control and are not always known until after placement is completed.

According to the Cache County School Board Policy: “Class grouping will be made in a manner which takes into account the individual needs of the student, as well as the composition of the whole group. Teachers working together will compile class lists and recommend them to the principal. Parents who feel their child has special needs not recognized by the teachers and principal, may provide input concerning student placement. This must be submitted in writing and presented at the principal’s office by the parent. It is the responsibility of the principal to consider the parent’s input and make final placement.”

Please remember that during the placement process, student assignments are made based upon many complex factors such as: particular programs, special services, a balance of academic abilities, social relationships, and student strengths and needs.

The Input form can be found on our school webpage www.ccsdut.org/heritage on the front page under “What’s Happening”. Please  list your students name and grade for the 2020-2021 school year and return by email to the principal at (lance.robins@ccsdut.org) by regular mail or bring into the office.

Wanted: Host Families

Heritage Elementary participates in a teaching intern program sponsored by Amity Institute that brings foreign teaching interns to the USA. These interns are a wonderful addition to our Heritage staff and provide needed help and instruction. We would like to hire three interns for the 2020-2021 school year. The program requires that the interns be hosted by families during their stay, which provides an amazing opportunity for families who wish to participate. Here are the details for hosting:

The host family must provide a private bedroom for the intern. There is no requirement for a private bathroom or kitchen. The host family will also provide meals for the intern (the school will provide lunch for the intern on school days). Host families are also asked to provide daily transportation to the school for the intern. Walking (if the school is within walking distance), biking, and public transportation are all acceptable forms of transportation for the intern.

The host family will not receive any financial compensation for hosting, however the interns are required to pay for all other personal needs outside of room, meals and transportation to school. The interns receive a $250 monthly stipend and are required to bring additional personal money and health insurance in order to participate.

Any family in the Heritage community can host and there is no requirement for speaking Spanish in the home. Families may host for the entire school year or may host for half of the school year. Many interns like to have two family experiences, so we would love to find more than one host family for each intern, if possible. The interns arrive a few days before school starts in August and return home after school ends in June. Families may choose to host from August-December or January – June. It is also possible to host for 12 weeks, but we prefer to find families willing to host a minimum of 1 semester.

If you are interested, please contact Lance Robins at Heritage Elementary or the district DLI coordinator Shauna Winegar for additional information. lance.robins@ccsdut. org / shauna.winegar@ccsdut.org

Can’t host? Please help spread the word to others who might be interested. Thank you!
