Hitching Post September 2019
Message from the Principal:
Here we are once again at the beginning of a new year! Wow! This is my fifth year as the principal at Canyon and I must say each year keeps getting better and better. We added almost sixty new students to Canyon this summer and love getting to know their new faces, stories and fun personalities. This month brings some of our favorite traditions such as Ag Day, the beginning of our Action Teams and the Change Challenge! Encourage your kids to join an Action Team and find their voice! Next week we will open up our Parent Teacher Conference online scheduler. Information on how to use the program will come home later this week. We hope to have 100% attendance at our conferences as this is such an important event to help our teachers meet with you individually and talk about your student’s needs. Thank you for your support!
The Change Challenge!
The PTA Change Challenge starts next Monday, September 23rd. Start gathering those coins from the couch, your pockets, car seats and anywhere else they might collect at your house. There are parties to be won and fun to be had...not to mention this fundraiser supports all of the great things our PTA does all year! Please help them out so they can continue to do fun activities for our students!
Action Teams are starting up!
Applications are available in the office!
SCC Members Needed
We are in need of a few new members for our School Community Council. This team meets once a month for an hour on the last Tuesday morning of the month at 8:00. We discuss the needs of the school, share community concerns and most importantly discuss the school goals and how we use the School Land Trust monies at Canyon. Please let the office know if you are interested in being on the team prior to Parent Teacher Conferences. Voting for the positions will take place during PTC in October.
Dates to Remember:

Habit of the Month:
This month we relaunch all of the Habits, talk about personal mission statements, set new WIGS (wildly important goals) and join action teams to help us find our voice in new ways. Encourage your child to tell you more about their mission statement and goals so you can support them at home. Next month we will find ways to learn about Habit 1: Being Proactive.
