Jensen Kleven is 2024’s Honors in Education Awardee for “Distinguished Service in Special Education”

Jensen Kleven

Cache County School District is committed to four values: Student-focused Learning, Community, Character, and Pursuit of Excellence. North Park Elementary Essential Elements Teacher Jensen Kleven embodies all four of these attributes in her teaching, and a rather remarkable award highlights these efforts. Utah First Lady Abby Cox and educators from around the state celebrated Jensen and other outstanding educators at the 2024 “Honors in Education Gala,” where Jensen was recognized for “Distinguished Service in Special Education.” According to the First Lady, this statewide award is given to teachers who “love their students…and inspire them to be something they didn’t know they could be.”

“Jensen is just a kind human being,” CCSD Director of Special Education Jeni Buist said. “She has a kind, loving, open heart. She goes above and beyond for her students every day to help them get the best education, to achieve meaningful inclusion, and to advocate for them.” In Jensen’s class, students build community by interacting with other students, their teachers, and aides. Jensen also fosters open communication with parents and families to strengthen support networks around the children.

North Cache Principal Jullie Payne emphasized these efforts. “Jensen collaborates well with parents, including them as key members of their student’s school support team. She is a dedicated teacher who is committed to helping students reach their full potential.” In Kleven’s classroom, students are treated as team players who respect themselves and each other. Children are expected to strive for the best within themselves.

“I love what I do,” Kleven said. “I love being a voice for these kids and helping them learn with their individual needs. They’re my favorite people ever.”
