Families find community and connection at ELL Family Gathering

Students participate in the ELL and Migrant Family Event

The English Language Learning (ELL) Department organized an ELL and Migrant Family Gathering on Saturday, April 20th, at the Cache County District Office. This gathering was tailored for English Language Learners (ELL), migrant and refugee students, and their families from across the district to increase awareness about the resources available within the district to assist families in enriching their children's educational journey. Fun activities were provided for children while their parents attended the event.

The event served as a platform for families new to Cache Valley, or those who primarily speak languages other than English, to explore district resources and establish connections with the community and staff. Through collaboration between families and the Cache County School District, this yearly event empowers families and helps facilitate their children's academic success.

According to Melinda LaMont, an ESL/Migrant Specialist for elementary education, ELL family events are essential for building connections with families in our district. “District ELL family events are great opportunities for district leaders to meet with families, build relationships, and provide information about how to navigate and engage with their children's education,” LaMont said.

We want to give a big shout-out to the Green Canyon Latinos in Action (LIA) group for generously helping with children's activities.
