Cache High Principal Sheri Hansen receives prestigious Honorary Degree from Utah FFA

Sheri Hansen receiving an FFA honorary degree

Congratulations to Cache High’s Principal Sheri Hansen, who recently received the Honorary State FFA Degree award from the Utah Future Farmers of America (FFA). According to the Utah FFA website, this award is given to individuals who help advance agricultural education and the FFA, and who have rendered outstanding service. Hansen received the award at the Utah FFA State Convention, which was held March 14-15, 2024, at Utah State University.

“I am privileged to be awarded an honorary degree in the FFA,” Hansen expressed. “What a top-notch program to be accepted into. I appreciate the role of FFA in students' lives as I watch them develop and grow throughout their high school experience. The values of the FFA program are to develop strong leadership qualities, instill a strong work ethic, and cultivate a sense of responsibility in students.”

At Cache High, students who participate in FFA tend and market goats every summer at the Cache Country Fair and Rodeo. Those who work on this project over the summer earn additional credit that counts towards graduation. “Cache High School loves FFA,” Hansen stated. “It creates a positive program for students that offers students numerous benefits. I love the hands-on experience in agriculture, leadership, and personal development, which can be invaluable for those interested in pursuing careers in related fields. We are glad we have the opportunity to offer the program at Cache High.”

In addition to Hansen receiving an award, five Cache County School District students earned Proficiency Awards.

  • Jade Clements, Cache High: Environmental & Natural Resource Management

  • Jace Buttars, Sky View High: Dairy Production - Entrepreneurship

  • Warren Leak, Sky View High: Dairy Production - Placement

  • Remington Rhoten, Sky View High: Diversified Crop Production

  • William Ashby, Sky View High: Swine Production - Placement

High school students interested in joining FFA should talk to their school counselor for more information and instructions on how to join. “Students engage in various activities; public speaking, community service projects, and competitive events,” Hansen explained. “ They further develop confidence, teamwork, and communication skills that are essential for success in life.  It is an impressive program, join!  You will make new friends, learn critical life skills, and have a lot of fun.”
