CCSD preschools prepare students for kindergarten and success
Did you know that CCSD has 16 preschool classrooms spread throughout the district? We have two different types of preschool classrooms - Special Education and Inclusion. We have seven Special Education Preschool classrooms. These programs are for children ages 3-5, who qualify based on developmental needs. Most students in these classrooms have an Individualized Education Plan. Our nine other preschool classrooms are Inclusion Preschools. This program is for students who are four, turning five. These classes are open to anyone in the school community. Some spots are reserved for children with special needs, but the majority of the students in these classes are students without disabilities.
According to Kellie Garcia, CCSD Special Education Preschool Coordinator, all 16 classrooms use the same research-based curriculum that helps prepare all students for kindergarten. This curriculum focuses on pre-reading and math, as well as science, social skills, speech, language, motor, etc. "The students leaving preschool are well-prepared for kindergarten and success in many ways," Garcia says. "Our students are entering kindergarten prepared for higher learning."
If parents have concerns about their child's development and are interested in getting an assessment done to check to see if their child qualifies for Special Education services, or are interested in signing up for one of the inclusion classes, visit the preschool page on the CCSD website.
