New school year brings a new look for Cache High
School supplies and clothes aren’t the only new things in Cache High’s hallways this school year. Over the summer, graphic designer, Tanner Stephenson, used spray paint to create a brand new look for Cache High. With murals of motivational quotes and significant people from history, the hallways have become an inspiration to anyone walking by.
The school’s front office staff, including Principal Sheri Hansen, counselors, and secretaries looked at art completed in other schools and created a list of influential people from history they wanted in the mural. They chose to focus on women and individuals in the science field. “Our goal with this project was to brighten the walls and help students see significant people in education historically,” Hansen said.
The Science Hallway has images of historical figures such as Gallileo, Sigmund Freud, and Albert Einstein. Focused on women in history, the English Hallway depicts women such as Cleopatra, Marie Curie, Anne Frank, Amelia Earhart, Maya Angelou, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Jane Goodall.
Stephenson spent four days designing the artwork and installing the pieces in the halls. Born and raised in Cache Valley, Stephenson graduated from Sky View High School and decided to pursue a career as an artist. Creating art for schools is just one way he has given back to his community. “The things you’re exposed to visually every day can be leveraged for good. What I’m trying to do is leverage these things and get good ideas in people’s heads. You learn better when you’re in a more visually-appealing environment, so I want to use art to make a difference for these students and their education,” Stephenson explained.
