CCSD child nutrition staff proclaim, “It’s all about the kids!”
CCSD child nutrition staff fill an essential role in helping students stay healthy, focused, and learning. Devoted workers in our school cafeterias make sure that there are nutritious meals and snacks available on each school day. During the 2020-21 school year, CCSD child nutrition staff served up an incredible 1,578,976 lunches and 180,954 breakfasts. But, it’s more than just that—CCSD child nutrition staff are committed to being one more friendly face to brighten a student’s day. As Mountain Crest High School head lunch coordinator, Chris Leetham puts it, “It’s all about the kids!”
This was obvious as the Mountain Crest child nutrition staff talked about their record-setting lunch service on February 16th, when they served 1,115 lunches to students. “The kids were so excited,” Leetham recalled, attributing the busy day to the fact that they were serving orange chicken–a favorite with students. “Chicken’s popular anyway, no matter what it is–chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, chicken fries, chicken popcorn, chicken patties…They’re all big. But orange chicken is one of Mountain Crest’s favorites! We haven’t served it since September 30th, so it was a real treat to have it here.” She continued, “We average about 1,000 to 1,050 total meals a day, but that day we served 1,115 total meals–and over 800 of them were orange chicken!” “
The Mountain Crest High School child nutrition crew
Other members of the staff chimed in to express what a pleasure it is to serve the students at Mountain Crest High School and to work with such a great crew. “The kids are very polite. They say thank you and are really appreciative,” said one staff member. “Everyone here is easy to work with and hard-working. It’s a great place to work,” added another staff member. “We try to have a good time. Sometimes the kids will see us out there laughing with each other and they want to get in on it, so we turn the music up and have a good time. If we’re not happy, the kids aren’t happy.”
We are so thankful to the amazing, hard-working child nutrition workers across our district who do so much for our schools and make such a difference for our students. It really is all about the kids!
