Lewiston Elementary Chosen to Receive Prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools Award
Congratulations to Lewiston Elementary for being awarded the 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award!
On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized Lewiston Elementary as one of three schools in Utah to win the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award. This award is given to schools based on outstanding academic performance and the school’s ability to close gaps between student subgroups.
Nominated schools must meet specific performance criteria on the state assessment in reading or language arts and math. According to the US Dept. of Education’s website, “The coveted National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.”
Lewiston’s principal, Leslie Burt, feels honored to have Lewiston recognized for the collaborative efforts of all of the students, parents, teachers, and staff. “Lewiston Elementary is an amazing school family,” Burt explained, “Together we can and do make a difference each day in the lives of our students.”
Lewiston Elementary serves over 500 students in grades K-6. The school’s mission is to provide each student with the opportunity to achieve their potential and be successful in every aspect of their lives. Many of the students who go to Lewiston come from generations of families who have previously attended the school.
Lewiston is the second CCSD school to be awarded the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award--Lincoln Elementary received the award in 2014. To read more about the award, please visit the US Dept. of Education National Blue Ribbon Schools webpage.
