Utah Universities respond to COVID-19, offer resources to assist seniors with enrollment, scholarships and more
Universities across the country have had to adapt their admissions processes and events to facilitate changes and restrictions from COVID-19, with the hopes that incoming students will have the information they need to prepare for their higher education. We have summarized some of the important information from colleges and universities throughout Utah, such as links to virtual tours, admission date changes, scholarship deadlines, and anything else you or your seniors might need to make their transition to college easier. Schools are listed in alphabetical order.
Brigham Young University
Brigham Young University is allowing students to change the semester/term that they originally planned to attend school to either an earlier or later date. Students can request the semester change by visiting BYU’s website and logging in with their Net ID and password. Although BYU is not offering an official virtual tour, there are many virtual tours provided by third-party websites including this tour from You Visit.
Dixie State University
Dixie State University has extended its in-state scholarship deadline to June 1, 2020, in an effort to accommodate changes in student’s plans. Dixie will begin offering limited tours in person again on May 8th or students can sign up for a virtual tour. Student orientation dates have been postponed to July and August. Southern Utah University
Southern Utah University has extended its deadline to apply for fall semester scholarships to June 1, 2020. Students can also request help from the admissions office with the following issues: withdrawing your deferment request for a future term, activating your admissions application for an earlier start term, looking into your scholarship and financial options, completing next steps, such as: registering for classes, finding housing, etc.
University of Utah
The University of Utah has implemented a wide variety of virtual info sessions and tours, which are found on this calendar. Though the admissions office is closed for appointments, you can email them directly at admissions@utah.edu. To help ease some of the anxiety future students are feeling right now, they are also extending the deadline for admitted students to confirm their intent to enroll and pay their enrollment deposit from May 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020. Utah State University
USU understands how the pandemic is affecting incoming students, and they are making efforts to help them as much as possible. The scholarship deadline for incoming students has been extending to June 1, 2020. Virtual events are occurring weekly, and the interactive online tour gives an in-depth look at the campus without having to leave your couch. USU has also offered to pay for incoming students’ first online summer class, in an effort to jump-start their education. Find more information about USU admissions here.
Utah Valley University
Deadlines at Utah Valley University have not currently been extended. Financial aid and scholarship offices at UVU are currently available through email and a live chat for students who may need assistance. Campus tours are not being offered in person, but there are virtual events that preview student life, admissions, scholarships, and more. A full calendar of these events can be found here.
Weber State University
Weber State University is offering Virtual Campus Tours as well as Virtual Information Sessions for incoming freshmen throughout the summer. Information sessions are held Monday-Friday at 10 AM and 2 PM and can be found here.
