Cache County students excel in USU’s Foreign Language Placement Exam
Students across Cache County School District participate in Utah State University’s Foreign Language Placement Exam each year. This optional test allows students to test out of and acquire credits for foreign language classes at the university based on the knowledge they already have of the language.
Mountain Crest High School students did particularly well this year on the placement exam. Twenty-seven third- and fourth-year students from Mountain Crest took the exam and earned a total of 104 credits, which is the equivalent of 26 four-credit university classes. One student tested out of four courses to qualify for upper-division classes. Five more students passed multiple courses and nine others passed the 1010 course. Students from a Spanish Literacy course at Mountain Crest also participated in the exam and earned a total of 304 credits. Some of them earned enough credits that they nearly have a minor in Spanish before even graduating high school! One student earned an unprecedented score of 899 out of 900!
Students at Green Canyon High School were set to take the Foreign Language Placement Exam in May of this year. However, with changes to public school and university schedules due to COVID-19, they plan to reschedule for a different time. Sky View High School had 17 students who passed at least one portion of the exam, three of whom passed four of the courses to qualify for upper-division classes.
Congratulations to all Cache County students who have participated in the placement exam thus far and good luck to those who are still planning to take it at a later date!
