No Debate About It: CCSD Speech and Debate teams are seeing great success
Speech and debate teams across Cache County School District’s high schools have all been seeing great success this year in their various competitions.
Ridgeline High School came out on top of the Hurricane High Invitational--with more than 20 of their students finishing in the top three of their category. Seven of those were first-place finishes. Ridgeline’s first-year Policy team of Holden Neilson and Kali Richards have had two first-place, and two podium finishes this year.
Green Canyon High School’s team has also seen great success in their various competitions. Some highlights include their first-place finish at the Northern Utah Invitational and another first-place finish at an unofficial “Super State” where 1A through 6A schools all compete against each other. Green Canyon beat every team at this competition, including the 6A schools, to bring home a first-place finish. The team also competed at a prestigious competition in Chicago where they finished in the top ten. Five students achieved national ranking after their most recent tournament — Brooklyn Weight, Becca Ivans, Naomi Craner, Hanna Pence, and Faith Locke.
Despite Mountain Crest’s smaller team with many new students, they too have performed very well in their competitions. The team brought home seven trophies from the Caesar Cicero tournament where they competed with 25 schools. Mountain Crest traveled to their first-ever out-of-state tournament at Arizona State University to compete against schools from across the country, giving students an opportunity to compete on a higher level. One Congress competitor, Greydon Durrant, made it all the way to the semi-finals at this tournament.
Sky View’s team placed regularly in the top five schools throughout the year at the tournaments they have attended. Students from Sky View competed at Arizona State University’s tournament as well and had one student who ended up going to the final round of the competition and placed sixth out of hundreds of competitors.
Congratulations to all of our district Speech and Debate teams on their incredibly successful seasons so far!
