Ridgeline High School's Chamber Orchestra honored with personal invitation from the Utah Music Educators Association
Ridgeline High School’s Chamber Orchestra has received a personal invitation from the Utah Music Educators Association to perform at a conference in February. This invitation is an honor and wonderful opportunity for Ridgeline’s orchestra students. The group is set to perform at the UMEA’s Midwinter Conference in St. George, Utah on February 7.
Typically, orchestras selected to perform at the UMEA conference each year are selected in one of two ways. Directors can submit their group to perform at the conference to be reviewed or the UMEA Orchestra vice president will personally invite an orchestra to come and perform. Only two high schools from across the state of Utah receive this honor each year.
John Findlay, director of Ridgeline’s Chamber Orchestra, believes that they were selected because of their consistent high-level performances at the UMEA State Orchestra Festival each year. All of the best orchestras in the state perform at this event, which gives the UMEA an opportunity to hear many different groups.
The orchestra will be performing on Friday, Feb. 7 during the first performance block of the UMEA conference in St. George. They will present the following numbers:
- Hoe Down - by Aaron Copland
- Romeo & Juliet, mvt. IV, "Street Fight" - by Jack Jarrett
- Symphony No. 8 in G major, mvt. IV - Dvorak/arr. Parrish
- Swamp Thang - by Richard Meyer
- Autumn, mvt. I, from the Four Seasons - by Vivaldi
- Holberg Suite mvt. I - Präludium by Edward Grieg
- Holberg Suite mvt. IV - Air by Edward Grieg
Best of luck to our Ridgeline HS Chamber Orchestra!
