In the spirit of the holidays, students gather food and non-perishable items for the Cache Community Food Pantry
During November and December, high schools and middle schools across our district have participated in food drives in preparation for the holidays. Students and faculty at North Cache, South Cache, Spring Creek, Cache High, Green Canyon, Mountain Crest, Ridgeline, and Sky View flooded the schools with non-perishable items in order to attain their donation goals. All donations will go to school pantries and Cache Community Food Pantry.
Participating students have felt the power of working together toward a common objective. Each school set goals to see how many items they could collect. Some schools, such as Sky View, even had competitions between classes and incentives for each goal that was achieved. North Cache dubbed their food drive the “Hunger Games,” with a goal sheet updated daily. Cache High is holding a special challenge where students can bring in specific food items for each day of the month.
Summer, a member of the Sky View executive council, was excited about the response from Sky View students. “It was amazing to see our grades come together to help others,” she said. “All these cans of food are going to other people; maybe even students from our school will be affected by it.”
Another member of Sky View’s executive council, Brookie, agrees. “I loved how kids were so willing to sacrifice money to donate or brought cans and water,” she shared. “Students and their families sacrificed what they had to help someone else, and that’s really inspiring.” Sky View High School alone donated over 5,000 articles of nonperishable items.
Congratulations to all participating schools on their efforts and success! These small acts of service will have a great impact on those in need throughout our valley. Many elementary schools across the valley are also participating in charitable activities during this season.
