Sterling Scholar candidates announced for CCSD High Schools
Cache County School District’s high schools have selected their 2019-2020 Sterling Scholar candidates. In 1960, the Sterling Scholar program was developed by the Deseret News and KSL Broadcast group to honor outstanding high school seniors. According to the Sterling Scholar website, “a Sterling Scholar is a high school senior who is publicly recognized and awarded for their pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership, and citizenship in the state of Utah.” One high school senior from various schools around the state is selected as the Sterling Scholar winner for each of the 14 categories, which include Mathematics; Business & Marketing; Computer Technology; Dance; English; Family & Consumer Sciences; Instrumental Music; Science; Skilled & Technical Sciences Education; Social Science; Speech/Theater Arts/Forensics; Visual Arts; Vocal Performances; and World Languages.
Upon being selected as a Sterling Scholar candidate for their school, students dedicate months and countless hours to preparing a portfolio. Each portfolio is uniquely designed and carefully crafted to showcase the work they have completed within their category. Portfolios will be submitted to the Sterling Scholar program in January and finalists will be selected in February. Final judging and interviews will also be conducted in February. An awards ceremony will be held on March 19, 2020, where the winners will be honored. Winners will receive cash scholarships and tuition waivers from participating institutions. This event will be live-streamed and can be viewed during and after at www.sterlingscholar.org.
