Performing and Visual Arts around the District
Cache County School District is enriched with many art programs that enable students to discover the arts, as well as develop and showcase their talents. This year, our students are excelling and demonstrating incredible creativity. We've also had the opportunity to enjoy visits and performances from several Utah art and dance organizations that generously brought their talents to schools in our valley. Here are a few recent events and activities that have taken place in our schools:
- Students in several CCSD schools enjoyed visits from the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and Ballet West. These programs taught children about the elements of dance and how movement is a part of everyone's lives. As the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company teaches, "Dance is for everybody."

- In November and December, educational outreach representatives from the Utah Museum of Fine Arts will be working with students at both the elementary and middle school levels. During their November 18th visit to White Pine Elementary, students worked on photography and printmaking and enjoyed a hands-on presentation about our world where the students were able to touch historical artifacts. Delpha Hall, CCSD Arts Coordinator, explained, “Organizations such as these bring experiences to our students that they might never otherwise have. We are grateful to have this program available and appreciate all those who help to make it possible.”

- The Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA) Red Rocks State Championship took place in St. George on November 8th. Marching Bands from Green Canyon, Mountain Crest, and Sky View High Schools took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively in the 4A Classification at the State Championships. Ridgeline’s band also participated in the 4A Scholastic division. At the Bands of America Utah Regional Competition on November 9th, Green Canyon won their division and took 7th overall in the competition.

The south-end JCO students performed at Mountain Crest High School on November 5th and the north-end JCO students performed at North Cache Middle School on November 7th. Congratulations to these 6th-grade students for working to develop their talents and performing well at their respective concerts.

- Art students from South Cache Middle School enjoyed a visit from the Utah Opera Company on November 18th. Over 300 students attended an assembly where members of the company performed a short opera titled "Freeze Frame: Elixir of Love." South Cache students also performed a fantastic production of “Willy Wonka, Jr.” on November 15th and 16th and hosted an art show for their parents, friends, and the community on November 7th.

- Students at Spring Creek Middle School held their first Art Gallery Walk on November 12th. Students and their families were invited to visit the school and enjoy student artwork. According to art teacher Meg Erekson, the theme for art this year at Spring Creek is "Stand for Something!" Students created art that represented a cause that was important to them--something they are willing to "stand up for" -- whether it be a social, political, moral, or environmental issue. The next two trimester Gallery Night dates are February 20, 6:00-7:30 p.m. and
May 20, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
