2017-18 Classified Employees of the Year
Cache County School District is pleased to announce its 2017-18 Classified Employees of the Year. Congratulations to Jolene Ricks, Linda Johnson, Daniel Gubler, Tracy Cronin, and Carrie Selvage!
Jolene Ricks is a paraprofessional who has been working at Lewiston Elementary School for over 18 years. She was described by principal Leslie Burt as “one of those quiet forces for good in the world.” Ricks works in a special education Resources Room with children of differing ages and abilities. She treats each child with personal, loving concern, care, and attention. Whether she is working one-on-one or in small groups, Ricks is always sensitive to each individual's needs and adjusts her attention accordingly. Ricks always has a smile on her face and goes the extra mile for her students.
Linda Johnson has been working as a secretary for Cache County School District for 30 years. Most recently, she was the secretary at Birch Creek Elementary School, until she retired this past May. Faculty, staff, and students describe Johnson as a kind, caring, loving individual who strives to brighten the day of those around her. Johnson is always looking for ways to serve others. Her favorite thing to do is to help another person without them knowing it was her. She loves cooking, her grandkids, and her job. As she retires and moves on, co-workers know it will be hard to replace her. As one colleague joked, “Linda’s shoes are like glass slippers; they are her slippers. No one else can fill them.”
Daniel Gubler, a custodian at White Pine Elementary School, has frequently been referred to as the “best custodian EVER!” Gubler has served as a custodian for eight years, during which time he has become known for his hard work and ingenuity. An example of his exceptional work ethic was seen during last year’s big snow storm. Once Gubler had finished shoveling out his own school, he headed down to the other district schools and dug them out. His creativity was proven when White Pine transformed from a middle school into an elementary school. He created ‘flatbed dollies’ to easily move furniture around the school. He has a constant “no panic,” calm disposition, and is known for his kindness. These qualities are just a few that make him such an important member of White Pine’s staff.
Tracy Cronin is a driver for the Transportation Department. Cronin first trained in Illinois, where she drove for three years before moving to Utah. She has been working for Cache County School District for six years. Cronin is known as a very caring individual with a positive attitude. She respects her students and helps them to know what the expectations are. In turn, they respect her. Every time an evaluator rides her bus, they express what a pleasure it was to ride with Cronin and her students. They see the respect between her and the students and appreciate the safe environment on the bus.
Carrie Selvage has been the Head Cook at Spring Creek Middle School for two years, but she has worked in Cache County School District for six. She is described by her co-workers and students as someone who is always a pleasure to work with and be around. Selvage works hard to ensure that meals are prepared and on time. Her sense of humor and love for singing and dancing creates a fun and festive atmosphere. Students, teachers, and faculty hear her singing and when she is done with a song, she’ll get a clapping ovation. Those around her don’t just clap for her songs, but for her caring, hard work as the Head Cook.
Please join Cache County School District in congratulating and thanking each Classified Employee of the Year! Your genuine care and hard work for the students, faculty, and staff at Cache County School District make such a difference in our schools.
