DLI for Grades 7-12
Continue Your DLI Journey
After completing sixth grade, students can continue their Dual Language Immersion (DLI) language studies through middle and high school. This secondary program builds on the strong foundation developed in elementary school, preparing students for advanced language proficiency and academic success.
What Does the Secondary DLI Pathway Look Like?
Here’s an overview of the courses and milestones for students continuing in the DLI program through middle and high school:
- Grades 7-9:
- DLI Honors Language Courses (1.0 credit/year)
- DLI Culture and Media Course (0.5 credit/year)
- End of 9th Grade:
- Take the AP Language Exam
- Grades 10-12:
- Enroll in Bridge Project 3000-level university courses (if AP exam is passed)

The Cache County School District offers secondary DLI programs in the following locations:
Chinese
Our secondary Chinese DLI Program is offered at the following schools:
- North Cache Middle School
- Green Canyon High School
Portuguese
Our secondary Portuguese DLI Program is offered at the following schools:

French
Our secondary French DLI Program is offered at the following schools:

Spanish
Our secondary Spanish DLI Program is offered at the following schools:

DLI Courses in Grades 7-9
Students in grades 7-9 enroll in two DLI courses each year to continue their language studies:
- DLI Honors Language Course: A two-trimester course (1.0 credit total) focusing on advanced language skills.
- DLI Culture and Media Course: A one-trimester course (0.5 credit total) exploring the target language’s culture, media, and communication.
At the end of 9th grade, students are encouraged to take the AP Language exam (Chinese, French, and Spanish) or the NEWL Exam (Portuguese).
DLI Courses in Grades 10-12
Students who pass the AP Language Exam can enroll in 3000-level university courses known as The Bridge Project, earning both high school and college credit.
- Who is eligible? Any student (DLI or non-DLI) who passes the AP Language Exam can participate in Bridge Project courses.
These advanced courses help students deepen their language skills and cultural understanding while gaining valuable college credits.
