“A Grace That is Rare”: Millville Elementary’s Teacher of the Year

The receptionist at Millville Elementary was alarmed when she heard Molly Clayson was being interviewed. “Interviewed for what?!” she asked. “You can’t have her. We love her too much!”
Fortunately for the Cougars, Clayson’s interview was for the Teacher of the Year award. Her heart lives in her resource classroom at Millville, the place she intends to spend the rest of her career.
“Millville’s an amazing school with amazing colleagues and amazing kids,” Clayson said. “I plan to stay here forever.”
Since high school, Clayson has cherished the opportunity to work with students with special needs. She has the true heart of a teacher, and the entirety of her 15-year career has been in those classrooms.

“Molly carries herself with a grace that is rare,” Principal Paula Hull shared. “She has a profound soft spot for our most vulnerable students. Where others might see a challenge, Molly sees an opportunity for connection. She advocates for these students with a fierce but quiet dedication, ensuring that they aren't just included in her classroom, but they truly belong there.”
The grace Principal Hull spoke of is apparent to anyone entering her room. Clayson’s face shines with a gentle light, and her students bask in her effortless warmth.
Clayson smiled and quietly shook her head at such praise, but she did acknowledge her gentleness. “Being calm is in my nature, I think,” she reflected. “I just want to be a safe space for the kids. I want to provide them with an environment where they feel comfortable and happy, and where they're able to learn, grow, and feel…well.”
“Molly’s work reminds us that the heart of education is the relationship between a teacher and child,” Hull said. “She communicates with a people-first mentality, ensuring that every parent, colleague, and student feels heard and respected.”

True to form, Clayson insisted that others share the spotlight. “There are so many other amazing teachers who should have this award,” she insisted. “I love my team. I’m so grateful to be joined by Lorraine Sanow, who is my para and Millville’s Classified Employee of the Year. We couldn’t do without her.”
After taking a photo together, Sanow hugged Clayson. “I am so grateful to work with you,” she said.
Principal Hull summarized it best. “Molly makes Millville a warmer, better place for everyone who enters its doors.”
Watching the smiles that lit the faces of each Millville student and staff member she interacted with, it is clear that it’s true. Millville Elementary and Cache County School District alike are fortunate to be graced by such a teacher.
