Special Education Preschool Classrooms

Is this screening for my child?

You should request an appointment if your child:

  • Is 3 to 5 years old
  • Lives within the school district boundaries.
  • Shows possible delays in areas like talking, playing, learning, or moving.
  • Is not old enough for Kindergarten yet.

You may request that your child be screened anytime during the school year. If they qualify for Special Education services, the preschool team will provide services at no charge to you.

**Note: If your child is already in the preschool program or getting speech services, you do not need to do this screening.

How the Process Works

There are three main steps to find out if your child qualifies for special education preschool:

  1. Initial screening identifies potential delays in development.
  2. Follow-up testing is scheduled if needed.
  3. Results determine qualification for services.

Screening areas will include: speech, academics, gross/fine motor skills, vision, hearing, behavior, etc. Children who demonstrate delays in any of these areas are encouraged to attend this screening.

If your child shows a delay in any area during the screening, a second appointment will be scheduled to do more in-depth testing. After the second round of testing, a meeting will be scheduled to go over the test results and to see if your child qualifies for the program or not
