What is the School Community Council?
-
Every school has a school community council or a trust lands committee. The membership of a school community council includes the principal, teachers elected by teachers, and a majority of parents elected by parents of students at the school. The most effective councils and committees are those whose members work collaboratively to develop plans to aid all students in reaching their potential. The public is welcome to attend all meetings.
Parents act as the primary advocates for all children. By working as a group and understanding the legal responsibilities that lie with the principal, parents ensure the representation of various viewpoints and values within the community. Parent engagement is key to student achievement and student progress.
If parents have an interest in serving on this committee, please let Mr. Harris know in the Spring, as he prepares to make notice of opportunities to serve on this committee for the following school year. This committee develops a school improvement plan and a School Trust LAND Plan for our school. Here is a link to the SCC Annual Timeline.
This year, our committee developed a trust land plan to support our school's improvement plan, appropriating $75,000 to do so. This council also acts as an advisory board for our school. This year's and past years' plans, along with annual funding reports, can be viewed through the "School Goals & Funding" page of our School Community Council pages.
