  • About Mr. Gittins

     

    This will be Mr. Gittins 18th year teaching at Mountain Crest. Rich graduated from Utah State University, with a BS in Math Education and a double minor in PE/Coaching/Health and Exercise Science, where he also earned a level IV math endorsement. Mr. Gittins also holds a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from USU.  Gittins also earned his certification in Driver Education, from the University of Utah.

    Gittins coached for 14 years as an Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at MC, also serving as the Head JV Coach for 6 years and the Head Freshman Coach for 5 years. This has allowed him the opportunity to be mentored by Steve Hansen, one of the most highly regarded and highly respected baseball coaches in the state. Coach Gittins' main Varsity responsibilites are coaching the catchers, calling pitches, and assisting with the pitchers; where both positions have produced several All-Region, All-State, and college-bound players. As a varsity assistant, Coach Gittins has been an integral part of 8 Region Championships and 2 State Championships. As a JV/Freshman Head Coach, Gittins compiled a 204-51 record, while winning either the regular season or the Freshman Tournament (or both) Championship 4 out of his 5 years.

    Gittins also spent 4 summers working in Professional Baseball, with the Ogden Raptors, the Rookie League affilliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the Raptors, Gittins has had the opportunity to "rub elbows" and try to "pick the brains" of many professional baseball people such as Tommy Lasorda, Lance Parrish, and Rick Honeycutt , just to name a few.
