I was once asked the question by a friend with a heavy Texan accent; "What makes you tick?" I’ve pondered this over the years and I think one of my answers could be building things; because I enjoy the journey. A few of the things that I have been ‘building’ over my lifetime include:

  • Building a family (a lifetime pursuit) consisting of my amazing companion and wife, two incredible children and their equally fantastic spouses, and currently three beautiful grandchildren.
  • Building my personal fitness training to accomplish event-specific and lifetime goals.
  • Building multiple houses.
  • Building a multisport event directing business and running it for 15 years.
  • Building academic curriculum and classrooms. Starting my first day of classroom instruction as a new teacher with only a folding chair.
  • Building high school athletic swimming, diving and tennis programs from scratch.
  • Building a career to contribute to the best schools in order to help students succeed.

As a builder, I try to see potential in things, people, and situations. I also work hard to support and/or turn potential into greatness. My grandpa was a builder and helped instill in me the outlook on life that “everything is beauuuutiful!” He’s right, and it’s an attitude that I try to maintain about life and the tasks ahead. Students have incredible potential, as does a pile of lumber, time training for an adventure or event, and many other things. All potential can become greatness and I work hard to see, support, and create incredible outcomes.

At 13 years old I began teaching swimming lessons. Since that time, my life has revolved around education as a ski instructor, a coach and teacher in middle and high schools, a post-high school instructor, and a school administrator in elementary, middle, and now high school. As an educator, and one that likes to build, I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with students and children of every age.

Seeing people succeed in life is one of my greatest joys. 26 years ago I chose a profession that allowed me to help educate and be around some of the greatest people on earth.  This journey has provided me with so many fun experiences and most importantly provided friendships that will be cherished forever.  Every day I run into these friends and after a small visit I am overwhelmed by their successes in life and the families that they have.

My family has been influenced by this journey as well.  I have literally been able to raise my family with the entire Cache Valley community.  My wife Amanie chose the same profession as I did and we have been lucky enough to be a part of every high school in the Cache County School District.
We can honestly say that every school and community has had a great influence on us personally and are grateful that we can say we are a member of each.

My journey and life has revolved around education as a teacher at South Cache Freshman Center. Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Mountain Crest High School. Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Ridgeline High School.

I am very proud to be a member of the PACK here at Green Canyon.  I love coming to work everyday because of the students and staff that call this place home. Green Canyon is a special place.

My wife and I are the proud parents of Bailie, Brinlie and Keaton.
