Mrs. Tyler Brown- Life Skills

Hello! My name is Tyler Brown. I was born and grew up in Logan, Utah. Much of my life has involved working with persons with disabilities so I decided to make it a career.  I graduated from Utah state in 2016 with a degree in special education with an emphasis in multiple and profound disabilities. Shortly after I graduated I moved to Colorado Springs. I lived and worked there for three years as a center-based autism teacher and loved every minute of it! My husband and I got married in 2018 in the beautiful mountains of Logan canyon. Though I loved living in Colorado, my husband and I missed our families and the mountains more! In 2019, we decided to move back! This is my third year as a life skills teacher at Heritage and I couldn’t be happier! My family and I love to go camping, hiking and watch movies! I also love to be creative and refinish furniture, make small trinkets and color! We have 12 chickens, 2 ducks and a dog which keep us busy! Mrs. Kim Day- 1st Grade DLI English

Hello! My name is Kim Day. While my name is short, I am anything but! I often have students ask me just how tall I am - I really am 6 feet tall! Besides the obvious, here are a few things about me to introduce myself:
-I love anything with peanut butter and chocolate. In my opinion, dark chocolate really shouldn't exist. Milk chocolate all the way!
-I grew up in Orem, Utah but also lived briefly in New York and Louisiana before the age of 5 (I was an adorable "Air Force Brat").
-I am the youngest of 5 girls and no boys. My sisters are my best friends! They affectionately call me "The Nice One".
-I hated exercise as a child but now I absolutely love to be active, especially outdoors. I have run a full marathon, several half marathons, and more recently participated in several Spartan races (adult versions of obstacle courses on oversized playground equipment, only you pay an absurd amount of money to do it).
-I attended Ricks College, BYU, and WGU. I received a BS in Human Development and Masters in Elementary Education.
-I have a passion for education - it is in my blood! My mother was an exceptional elementary teacher and instilled a love of learning about people, cultures, and beliefs that connect our communities and world. She always used to say, "When you know where, you start to care".
-I love to travel! I have been to 27 (and counting) of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Spain, and Ireland.
-I am married to an amazing man, all 6'8'' of him! I have two spirited and independent daughters who have also inherited our tall genes.
-I previously worked for 13 years at the Dept. of Workforce services aiding individuals in receiving public assistance.
-Hablo Español!

I am thrilled to be starting my teaching career at Heritage Elementary and look forward to contributing to being a positive influence in students' lives.

My name is Zander Andreasen. I am from a small town in northwest Wyoming but I have grown to love Cache Valley. I recently graduated from USU with my bachelor's degree in Elementary education, with minors in Spanish teaching and Physical education/coaching.  I was blessed to spend time in various DLI classes here at Heritage while studying, as well as various teaching opportunities in other schools, including being a PE teacher, a preschool teacher, and most recently the 1st Grade Spanish DLI teacher at Garland Elementary school. I learned Spanish while I lived in Argentina for two years and fell in love with the language and the culture. I love to do anything related to any sport (play, watch, officiate, read about, learn random trivia), but baseball is definitely my favorite. I also enjoy spending time with my family, playing board games, and watching movies.

My most favorite things ever are homemade Mexican food and puppies. On the weekends/long breaks/summers, you will find me spending time with my loved ones – far and near – creating and sharing special memories with them. Winter is not my favorite; thank goodness for Starbucks and their seasonal brews, or I would not survive. I am also not a fan of mint flavored/scented anything. My favorite color depends on my mood – but red, purple and blue have always been my top three. A few of my favorite treats are fresh fruits, hard and soft caramels, Coke, sweet tea and coffee. My favorite flowers are ranunculus and very early blooming peonies.

I moved to Cache Valley from California about 7 years ago, and I love seeing the mountains every day as well as experiencing spring, summer, fall and winter.  I enjoy the snow and cold just as much as the warm summers - when you might find me on a long walk around town or hiking on a canyon trail. I have 3 adult children that I love to spend time with, but it’s challenging because one lives in North Dakota, one lives in Arizona and one is in Georgia for college. When we are all together, we like to play board games, read, talk about everything, laugh a lot, eat great food, play pickleball, go on hikes and enjoy being outdoors in God’s beautiful creation.

I find great joy in working with my students at Heritage, and love to watch as they invest in one another, solve problems together and discover how to be better people. Sixth grade is a year of big changes physically, socially, and emotionally, so we practice extending grace and kindness and never give up on each other.

I love dark chocolate, salty pretzels, and Mexican food.

I was able to meet my grandparents and relatives as well as to travel to many areas and learn about different cultural traditions. I loved living 30 minutes from the beach but I've learned to love the mountains too. I graduated from BYU-Idaho where I met my husband and we have three wonderful boys. My family likes to collect rocks, coins/currency, sand from beaches around the world, stamps and legos.  We lived in Washington State prior to moving here and I worked as a paraeducator in different grades (Preschool, K, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th) and also had experience with Spanish DLI in the younger grades. I've been an interpreter/translator for the Logan School District for 10 years.

My passion for teaching comes from using my Spanish and being able to share my culture and traditions with my students. After graduating from USU in 2008, I started working here at this awesome school.

Mr. Logan Eubanks- K- 3rd SPED

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Logan Eubanks.
Professionally, I have been teaching with Cache County School District since 2003.  I spent the first 7 years at Summit Elementary in Smithfield Utah, and have been lucky enough to teach here at Heritage since It's beginning in 2010 (man time moves fast). I am Aggie, I received both my Bachelors of Science and Masters of Education in Special Education at Utah State University. I have the best job because I get to mix it up with students from Kindergarten to 6th grade.
On the Personal side of life, I am family man.  I enjoy coaching my kids and have coached many teams in basketball and soccer over the last 18 years at both rec and competitive levels.  I love to mountain bike with my wife and ski & snowboard with my family. I wish I could be outside more hiking and camping.  I am a horrible fly fisherman but a pretty good handyman. I have developed a sweet tooth for chocolate as I have gotten older. My favorites/weaknesses are Reisens, Heath bars, and Phish Food ice cream. Now that I wrote that down I feel guilty and need to go for a run. I have been a runner 20 years and have ran 5 marathons.
My hope is to keep both my mind and body active. If I could do something more,  it would be travel and see more of the world.  I love to learn about other cultures and eat their foods.  My favorites are Mexican, Indian, and pizza.

Mrs. Carol DeFriez- ELL

Hello! I am Carol DeFriez;  I have been teaching ELL students here at Heritage for 3 years now, and  I have really loved it! The people here are great to work with. Now, a little about me, I have 6 children, 4 daughters, and 2 sons. I also have ten beautiful grandchildren. I love to crochet, cook, read, hike, travel, and spend time with my family. My husband and I have lived in Cache Valley for over 26 years. I have taught for 12  years, at both the first and fifth grade levels. I chose to do an emphasis in ESL while attending USU, thinking I would transition into it eventually. The opportunity came to make the change, so I did, and I love working with these kids!  Some of my favorite treats are brownies, cookies, and all baked goods. It’s great to be part of the Heritage team!
