I am also not a fan of mint flavored anything. My favorite color depends on my mood – but red, blue and purple have always been my top three. My favorite treats are Coke and Hershey’s Cookies and Cream. My favorite flowers are ranunculus.

Did I mention that I bake my own bread and live on a farm?  Indeed, we have chickens, cows, and pigs (along with our house pets, a cat and bunny).  I am excited to have a spectacular year this upcoming year, and the year after that, and the year after that.....

Kids make me smile - my daughter notices animals everywhere, but I notice kids!   I am so excited to join the staff at Heritage Elementary! My husband and I have lived in Cache Valley for over 25 years, we love it here! I have taught for 10 years, at both the first and fifth grade levels. I have taught most of that time at Lewiston Elementary and have loved working there. I chose to do an emphasis in ESL while attending USU, thinking I would transition into it eventually. I had an interest in teaching English as a second language because I learned Spanish in Guatemala and loved learning a language! The time has come to make the change, and I look forward to using the knowledge I gained at the University and throughout my career to teach ESL. I also look forward to learning all I can from everyone at Heritage.  Now, a little about me, I have 6 children, 4 daughters, and 2 sons. I also have five beautiful grandchildren. I love to read, hike, travel, and spend time with my family. Some of my favorite treats are brownies and Reese's peanut butter cups. I look forward to working with the great people at Heritage Elementary!

Hello! My name is Kate Mortensen and I started working at Heritage Elementary in 2016. I love my job and I love working with the preschoolers. My family moved a lot when I was growing up, so I have lived in Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Montana, Idaho, California and Utah. Cache Valley is my chosen home and has been for a long time. I love our beautiful mountains, valleys, farms and communities. My husband, son, daughter and I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities. We also love music and to read good books. I love all types of candy, but anything chocolate is my favorite. I also enjoy Lemon-Lime Gatorade, Coke and Dr. Pepper and my favorite color is green. ☺
