Letter from the Principal

  • Dear Millville Elementary Families,

It is time to go back to school! It feels really good to share those words with you. With all the uncertainty, unknowns and concern that we have been experiencing, it is great to bring some normality back into our lives. Please understand that we will do all we can to keep our students and staff safe, while still providing an excellent education. We welcome your cooperation as we embark on this monumental challenge involving something that none of us have experienced before.

We will be welcoming students back on August 20th, as per our district calendar. In the coming weeks, watch for emails and additional information on our school website with changes to our school routine. Things will look and feel different. There will be new protocols for entering and exiting the building, classroom seating and well as lunchroom practices. We have a new schedule for this year. Students in grades 1 through 6 will start school at 9:05 and will be dismissed at 2:50, Monday through Friday. Morning kindergarten will be from 9:05 until 11:45, with afternoon kindergarten starting at 12:10 and ending at 2:50. Our staff is committed to making these changes go smoothly and to help all students feel good about being here at school.

Our success this year will depend on having healthy students and staff. If your student is sick, at all, please keep them at home. We are requiring the same of our staff members. Please formulate a plan in the event your student becomes sick at school, and they need to be sent home. We will be taking extra measures to sanitize our school on a daily basis, with extra attention being paid to high touch areas. We will be observing social distancing as much as possible, and in following the statewide mandate, we are requiring all students, staff and visitors to wear masks when social distancing is not an option. We will be working to find times throughout the day to give students a break from their masks. If your student has a physical impairment or a disability that requires them to not wear a mask, please contact me. We do have staff members who are considered high-risk or live with someone who is high-risk, we are wearing masks to help everyone in our school stay as safe and healthy as possible.

    Dates to remember:

    • August 20th--first day of school for grades 1-6
    • August 26th--first day of school for kindergarten
    • September 7th--Labor Day, no school

SCHOOL HOURS: Monday--Friday, 9:05--2:50 (subject to change throughout the year) In the interest of safety, please do not drop off your children before 8:45, as there is no supervision before that time.

MEAL PRICES: School lunch will cost $2.05 this year. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:45 and will cost $1.40.

SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST: Grade level supply/donation lists are available on our website or you may view it Here. Notice: the items on the list will be used during the regular school day. They may be brought from home on a voluntary basis, otherwise, they will be furnished by the school. Please refer to the district website for board policy regarding student fees and fee waivers.

I am looking forward to another great year here at Millville Elementary.

    Sincerely,

    Brady Johnson

    Principal
