Hot Weather Guidelines for Cache County Schools
Although Northern Utah enjoys fairly temperate summers, average temperatures in late August and early September often reach 87-88 ℉, with occasional heat waves beyond the average. The Cache County School District has created guidelines (see next page) for schools to assist with monitoring temperatures during the first few weeks of school to increase student safety and comfort during periods of hot weather.
Similar to the Utah Air Quality Index, the National Weather Service HeatR
The HeatRisk index assists administrators and parents in identifying reasonable steps that may be taken to mitigate higher temperatures in the classroom. To view the current HeatRisk forecast, see https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.
In addition to the considerations above, the Utah High School Athletics Association has also provided guidelines for coaches and athletes during hot weather.
