Weather Closures and Delays

❄️ How Decisions Are Made for School Delays or Closures

The Cache County School District (CCSD) follows clear guidelines and procedures for deciding on a late start, early release, or full school closure.

Monitoring Weather and Road Conditions

A team at the CCSD Transportation Department—which serves both Cache County and Logan School Districts—constantly watches the weather.

This team uses information from the National Weather Service and local road officials. They look closely at many factors, including:

  • Snow amounts

  • Temperature

  • Visibility (how far you can see)

  • Wind

  • Current road conditions

They monitor these factors both before and during bad weather.

The Final Decision

Based on their observations, the Transportation team makes a recommendation to the Superintendent’s Office to implement a schedule change (late start, early out, or closure) or to proceed with normal transportation.

The Superintendent and other district leaders make the final decision after looking at all the facts and recommendations. The top priority in this decision is always the safety and well-being of students and staff traveling to and from school.

Weather Disclaimer

While weather conditions can remain unpredictable and change rapidly, the school district diligently monitors the situation and strives to make the safest possible decision for all students and staff.

How Families Are Notified

If the school day schedule changes, the CCSD Office of Communication will send a message to parents and guardians using phone, text, and email.

  • You can set how you receive these messages in PowerSchool.

  • Important: If you have chosen to opt out of messages in PowerSchool, you will not receive weather notifications.

  • Announcements will also be posted on all CCSD websites and social media platforms.

  • Closures and delays will be announced on the local radio station, KVNU.

No notification means that schools are running on a regular schedule. You will only be notified if there is a delayed start, early release, or closure.

Notification Times

  • Alerts sent the night before (for the next school day) will be sent by 9:00 p.m.

  • Alerts sent the same morning will be sent by 5:30 a.m.

Safety Is Our Priority

Because the Cache County School District covers a large area where weather and road conditions can be very different, decisions are often complex.

We encourage all families and employees to make the best decision for themselves, based on local conditions in their area.

These procedures may be changed if there are extreme or unusual weather conditions.

School Times For Closures, Early Out, and Delays

School and bus stop times will be adjusted for inclement weather as follows:

School Closure

In the event of a school closure, there will be no school that day.

Evening alerts to alter the next school day's schedule will be sent by 9:00 p.m. Morning alerts to alter the same day's schedule will be sent by 5:30 a.m.

NO extracurricular activities will be held when schools are closed due to the weather.

Late Start/Delays

In a late start, morning bus stop and school start times are delayed by exactly two hours. Schools release at the usual hour.

First Grade through 12th Grade Changes

  • All schools will begin exactly two hours later than their normal start time.
  • Students should be at bus stops two hours later than the bus's normal arrival time.

Kindergarten & Preschool Schedule Changes

  • NO AM Preschool or Kindergarten.
  • All-Day Kindergarten will operate on the two-hour delay schedule.
  • Afternoon Kindergarten will be held at its regular time.

Early Out

In the event of an early out, school release and bus stop times are one hour early.
