The following policy pertains to all Cache County School District (CCSD) employees acting in an official capacity on behalf of the school district when creating, maintaining and promoting an official web or social media site that is accessible to the general public...
Whether in their official or personal capacity, employees must always comply with ethical and professional standards of conduct pursuant to CCSD policies and Utah Code.
I. Purpose
- A. The CCSD utilizes official school websites and social media technologies and platforms as a means to share and transmit information to the school community...
II. General Website and Social Media Policies
- A. Content must align with the district’s academic mission.
- B. All content must follow CCSD, state, and federal policies.
- C. Parents may opt out of student photos or names being used; signed consent is needed for sharing full names.
- D. Disclosure of student personally identifiable information (PII) is prohibited except under outlined conditions.
- E. No copyrighted material without permission and proper citation.
- F. Linking to unofficial CCSD-related sites that violate district policies is prohibited.
- G. No use for commercial, political, or personal financial gain.
- H. Only directory-level staff information (name, CCSD email/phone) may be posted.
- I. Must comply with the District’s Appropriate Use Guidelines.
III. Specific School Website Policies
A. Each website must have a designated webmaster responsible for accuracy and professionalism.
B. Students may only post under direct webmaster supervision.
C. Sites must be checked regularly for policy compliance.
D. District administration reserves the right to monitor or adjust content.
IV. Specific Social Media Policies
Social media is defined as internet-based applications (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) that turn communication into interactive dialogue.
- A. Only principals or their designees may create official school social media accounts using school emails.
- B. Departments/programs may have their own accounts with naming conventions and approval.
- C. All accounts must be reported to the CCSD Public Information Officer.
- D. Only approved logos and links to official pages are allowed.
- E. All accounts must include a specific policy statement in the description or bio (see original for full text).
- F. Content must be current, accurate, and grammatically correct.
- G. All content must follow CCSD, state, and federal policies.
- H. Profanity filters must be used; content is subject to review and removal.
- I. Social media is not a venue for grievances—use official complaint procedures.
V. Teacher Websites & Social Media
- A. Teachers may use the following tools:
- 1. Canvas (Secondary teachers)
- 2. Google Sites (All teachers)
- 3. District Website teacher pages
- B. Teachers must follow the general website and social media procedures and get approval for program-specific social media.
