Interim Middle School Curriculum Requirements Procedures for the 2025-2026 School Year
- Purpose
This administrative procedure outlines the middle school curriculum requirements for grades 7–8 for the 2025–2026 school year. These requirements reflect existing policy expectations and will remain in effect until the implementation of the revised curriculum plan found in Policy No. 4800 P1 in the 2026–2027 school year.
II. 2025–2026 Curriculum Requirements for Grades 7 and 8
Grade 7 – 18 Trimester Course Slots
- Required Courses:
○ Language Arts 7 (3 trimesters)
○ Writing Extension* (1 trimester)
○ Mathematics 7 (3 trimesters)
○ Integrated Science 7 (3 trimesters)
○ Utah History (1 trimester)
○ Healthy Lifestyles (PE) (1 trimester)
○ Health (1 trimester)
○ Digital Literacy (1 trimester)
○ College and Career Awareness (1 trimester)
Electives: 3 trimesters
Grade 8 – 18 Trimester Course Slots
- Required Courses:
○ Language Arts 8 (3 trimesters)
○ Writing Extension* (1 trimester)
○ Mathematics 8 (3 trimesters)
○ Integrated Science 8 (3 trimesters)
○ U.S. History (2 trimesters)
○ Healthy Lifestyles (PE) (1 trimester)
○ College and Career Awareness (1 trimester)
○ Electives: 4 trimesters

Additional Requirements
- Students in either 7th or 8th grade must complete at least one trimester of a Performing or Visual Arts course.
- *Note: The Writing Extension may be integrated with other required courses at the school’s discretion.
III. Course Substitution Process
- A student or parent may request to substitute a required course with an alternative course, extracurricular activity, or educational experience if:
○ The substitute is similar in content or learning outcomes.
○ It aligns with the student’s Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR). ● Approval must be granted by a school administrator and school counselor. ● If a request is denied, the parent or student may appeal to a review panel of at least two district-level officials responsible for secondary education and curriculum.
