Student Self-Administration of Medication at School Procedures
Self-Administration and possession of prescription and non-prescription medications
A. Upon completion of the necessary medication authorization forms and/or plans by both the parent/guardian and healthcare provider, students from PreK-12 are permitted to carry and self-administer specific medications including:
- asthma medications;
- allergy medications (including epinephrine); and 3. diabetes medications (including insulin, glucagon).
B. Except for what is provided in “A” students in preschool through grade 6 may not possess or self-administer any other medications.
C. In addition to “A” Students in grades 7 through 12 may possess and self-administer medication under the following conditions:
- The student’s parent/guardian and licensed health care provider sign the appropriate CCSD Medication Authorization form.
- The student may only carry one day’s dosage of medication, excluding controlled substances; and
- The student has the requisite maturity and competency to reasonably be expected to appropriately administer the medication on his/her own.
- Any misuse of such medication by the student may be subject to disciplinary action under district policy, Conduct: Student Discipline. Medication self administration privileges will be withdrawn.
Self-Administration of Sunscreen
A. Students in preschool through grades 12 may possess and self-apply FDA-regulated sunscreen without parent or physician authorization.
