Policy No. 1650: Superintendent's Contract, Evaluation, and Renewal/Non-Renewal
The Superintendent of Schools is appointed by the Board of Education and serves as the Board’s chief executive officer. The term of office is for two years and until a successor is appointed and qualified subject to applicable law. (See UCA 53G-4-301).
The Board shall make a written evaluation of the Superintendent during his/her contract term. In its sole discretion, the Board may evaluate the Superintendent on a more frequent basis. Written evaluations of the Superintendent by the Board must be completed before the contract is renewed and the Superintendent’s contract may not be automatically renewed.
Based on performance evaluations, the Board may renew the Superintendent’s contract for the next term. Non-renewal of the Superintendent’s contract can only be accomplished by a majority vote of the Board.
