• Scholarships are primarily based on merit. They can be very competitive.

    Scholarships are primarily awarded based on achievement such as good grades, sports, or community involvement.

    There are also scholarships based on ethnicity or cultural background in an attempt to help level the playing field.

    Apply for as many scholarships as you can. The more you apply for, the greater chance you will get assistance in furthering your education.

    Use Social Media as an asset. Many organizations review finalists' social media accounts, so you want to be sure to put your best foot forward. Remember, you are trying to get some organization to invest in you and your future. You need to promote yourself accordingly.

    Answer all questions whether they are mandatory or optional. Answering the optional questions will improve your chances at being awarded the scholarship.

    Many organizations are moving to Zoom meetings for interviews. Make sure that you are prepared for such meetings. Make sure the lens on your camera is clean and make sure your background is appropriate for a Zoom meeting.

    Be aware of scams. Legitimate organizations will never ask for money. Don't pay for scholarship searchs. Most are free if they are legitimate.

    The State of Utah also offers Career and Technical Education Scholarships for noncredit programs at public colleges in Utah and technical colleges. Students should talk to their college for more information.

    These requirements were created after examining data from the last five years of Utah high school graduates to identify the top predictors of college success.

    • Earn a 3.3 cumulative high school GPA
    • Complete 3 advanced courses
      • Complete 1 Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or Concurrent Enrollment (CE) course in each of the core areas of high school graduation:
        • math,
        • science, and
        • language arts
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    • Graduate from a Utah high school

  • Prime Program Grant

    The PRIME Scholarship is awarded to students who earn the TRANSFORM certificate granted by the Utah State Board of Higher Education (USBE) after completing required concurrent enrollment (CE), career and technical education (CTE) coursework, or a youth apprenticeship in high school.

  • Utah Promise Scholarship

    The Utah Promise Scholarship is the first-ever statewide needs-based scholarship program in Utah. It is available to recent high school graduates and adult learners at Utah’s public colleges and universities, as well as Utah’s public technical colleges. The Utah Promise Scholarship will cover up to tuition and fees for up to two years. The Utah Promise Scholarship is patterned after Dream Weber and SLCC Promise in accordance with H.B. 260, Access Utah Promise Scholarship.

  • Horatio Alger Scholarships

    Since 1984, Horatio Alger Association has awarded over $235 million in scholarships to more than 35,000 deserving students.

    In 2023, the Association will award
    105 National Scholarships at $25,000 each,
    and more than 500 State Scholarships at $10,000 each. 

    All National and State Scholarships are awarded to deserving juniors who demonstrate critical financial need.

    The deadline to submit a
    completed application is March 15th, 2023.
