  • Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge Home
    Join the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge by grabbing your favorite books, logging your reading minutes, winning prizes, and most importantly, having fun all summer long!

    Richmond Library Summer Reading Program
    Register for a tracker card at the Richmond library, and check off boxes for the days and times you read. Turn it in when it's completely filled out, and you'll receive a prize! You can get up to three trackers, and will be entered into a grand prize raffle at the end of the summer!

    Smithfield Library Summer Reading Program
    Smithfield has programs for all ages! From movie nights to meeting authors, you'll be busy all summer! Look at their website or go to the Smithfield library to learn more.

    Summer Reading Tips:

    • Make sure your kids have plenty of books
    • Put books in convenient places (the car, living spaces, bathrooms)
    • Encourage social reading
    • Keep some time available for reading
    • Visit your local library
    • Enroll your child in summer reading programs
    • Explore online reading sites
    • Read aloud, together
    • Be a good example
    • Create a book club
    • Let your child choose what he/she reads
    • Read with a headlamp and stay up late
    • Get help. Ask a librarian or bookstore employee for book suggestions
    • Get your child their own library card
