    School-Parent Policy


    Canyon Elementary School will do the following to support parent involvement in the school:


    Canyon Elementary will convene an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I and their right to be involved. These meetings will include but not be limited to Beginning Year Parent Nights and Parent Literacy Nights.


    Canyon Elementary will offer flexible meeting times, such as meetings in the morning or evening.


    Canyon Elementary will involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school parental involvement policy and the joint development of the Title I Schoolwide Plan. The School Community Council will review and approve the plan on a yearly basis.


    Canyon Elementary will provide parents with a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet. We will send this information in newsletters and will discuss it at our Beginning Year Parent Nights.


    Canyon Elementary will provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the State’s academic content standards and State and local academic assessments. We will discuss this in Parent/Teacher meetings and at Parent Nights and will provide information on the school website.


    Canyon Elementary will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training. These will be provided in Parent/Teacher meetings, at Parent Nights, in newsletters, and on the school website.


    Canyon Elementary will ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to the parents of participating children in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand. Letters and notices are sent in both English and Spanish.


    Canyon Elementary will provide other reasonable support for parental involvement activities as parents may request. The School Community Council will review the policy yearly.
