Netiquette, Ethics, and Privacy
We are going to discuss three areas. You will create a new word document and copy and paste the questions in the word document. As you discover the answers to the questions through exploring the web pages, you will enter your answers in the word document. (The questions are found below the explanation part of this page.)
Read through what Netiquette is by going to http://www.livinginternet.com/i/ia_nq.htm
Take the quiz http://www.albion.com/netiquette/netiquiz.html
Open a word document and put your name and class period at the top of the document. Enter the heading NETIQUETTE. Under this heading list at least three things you learned about Netiquette from reading this website information. List two things you have seen others do that is wrong (according to Netiquette). List two things you have done that may need to be changed. Netiquette is new to most people so do not feel bad. It is just something to be aware of so you can use the internet appropriately.
Spend a few minutes learning about computer ethics by going to http://library.thinkquest.org/26658/. Click on "Enter the Site."
This site was created by students for students and describes computer ethics quite well. There is a lot of information here! Section 1.2 has an activity that is pretty fun. Play it and see how you do. Just know that many of the questions will repeat. Keep in mind that it was created by kids after all. They did the best they could at the time. :)
Read the sections on Copyright, especially 2.3. In your word document enter the heading COPYRIGHT. What copyright laws are so commonly broken that most of us do not realize we are breaking the law? No, this question is not stated specifically on the web page. It is going to require some thought on your part. Think of music and movies. Why do so many people break this law but not really think they are stealing?
There is a worksheet that goes along with this web page. If you are in need of some extra credit, print and complete this document at home with your parents. (It is attached below.)
We will do a class activity on Privacy. Then you can complete the assignment for this section.
Below is an attached PDF file labeled Privacy Reading. Read through the two pages.
In your word document add the heading PRIVACY. What, if anything, concerns you about what people can find out about you when you use the Internet? How do you think your parents feel about what information can be accessed about them?
Google one of your parents names. See if you can find anything on the Internet about them. Do you think your parents know that information is there? How do you think they feel about it? Answer these questions in your word document.
