Young Writers & Artists Fest
The Young Writers and Artists Fest is a gathering each year held at Utah State University of students who like to write or create artwork. It is an all day (school day) event where young writers read their work to others and artists display their pieces. It's a nice chance to hang out with other writers and artists.
46 writers and artists from our school will be selected to attend along with students from schools all around Cache Valley. There will be a well-known author, lunch, entertainment and more.
Each year language arts teachers are allowed to send five students to the Fest (I'm not sure how many artists Mrs. Erekson gets to send, but I think it's 20).
This year the Fest will be held in March. Entries are due to your Language Arts teacher by the end of January (the exact deadline is stated in the linked to Information and Application for this year - at the bottom of this page). Start working on a piece of writing or art to submit. You may be able to take an existing piece of writing and fit it to the theme.
Each year there is a theme to write about. This year the theme is "Make Your Mark." It's up to you to decide what that means, so you can go just about anywhere with it.
- Humorous Essay
- Foreign Language
- Informative/Persuasive Essay
- Biographical/Autobiographical Essay
Please click on the "Information" link at the bottom of this page for more general information, and some specifics on what each category includes.
You can get the writing application by clicking on the "Application" link at the bottom of this page and printing it (the art application is available from the art teacher, Mrs. Erekson).
Anyone interested will have to submit their pieces to their Language Arts teacher by the deadline mentioned in the linked to Information and Application for this year (at the bottom of this page). Your teacher will read through the entries and select the five best pieces of writing from all of their students. Those are the five students who will get to go from that teacher.
